This portion of the site is extremely hard to keep up to date. I will periodically post something but not necessarily after each week.
The Scots JV beat Pilot Rock JV 10-8 behind the pitching of Matt McGill and hitting of Thomas Moore. Matt left the game up 7 and ended up with the very rare win AND save hahahhaha. Thomas Moore carried the Scots at the plate with a 3-4 day and two RBI.
An inning in both games of a double header sank the TigerScots against Heppner 2-6 and 5-8. Defensive mishaps cost the Scots in the first game pitchers dual. Calvin Thacker got the Scots going at the plate with an RBI double but we dug ourselves too big of hole to come out of.
The Scots JV got off to a quick start against Pendleton but came up short in the end 6-4. We got on the board early with an RBI single by Nick Pease to score Deric Carson who also had singled. Defensively Chris Hamby made a good catch out in right field. On the day, Deric Carson went 2-3 with 2 RBI and a double, Calvin Thacker had a double, and Matt McGill had an RBI single. Pitching wise we left a couple balls up that allowed the Bucks to get a couple hits to score their runs. Overall, it was a well played game by both teams and it was good to see Coach Zander and Lambert!
On Tuesday, a classic pitchers dual between the Scots Casey Riddle and the Rockets Travis Copeland ended with a 2-0 Rocket victory. The only scoring occured in the 4th inning when the Rockets plated 2 runs on a triple and a couple singles.
The TigerScots threatened in the bottom of the 5th with 2 runners on and no outs. A failed bunt and doubling up a runner ended the tigerscot threat. Casey Riddle threw a terrific game, and along with the pitch calling of catcher Elliot Salter, only gave up 4 hits on the day along with 5 strikeouts. The Scots only managed 2 infield singleThe game lasted only an hour and twelve minutes as both pitchers threw strikes and the defense made plays. Offense--C- Tough pitcher but we also have good hitters. Defense--B+ A couple mishaps but came back well to not let them hurt us. Made several great plays and helped out Riddle on the mound. Pitching--A On saturday the TigerScots took to games from the Irrigon Knights 5-1 and 12-4...both league wins. Dallas Reich started on the hill for the first game and threw 3 solid innings then Matt McGill came in for the last 4 innings to close the door. Offensively we only had 3 hits (Bond, Lively, and Salter) but put pressure on the defense with solid at bats and hustle.
In Game 2 the bats got going, led by Calvin Thacker (3 RBI) and Dallas Reich (2 RBI) who had 3 hits apiece, the TigerScots notched a 13-4 victory. Elliot Salter and Drew Greenwalt each threw the ball effectively and were around the zone. Riley Sederberg and Deric Carson each had 2 hits and overall the Tscots banged out 13. Overall Pitching: B+--too many walks, yet around the zone all day. Hitting: C in first game...too many strike outs (however, I do think there were some quality at bats that ended in strike outs) B+ in second game Defensively: B couple plays that should be made but overall, much better fielding day. After multiple rained out games, the Scots were finally able to get on the diamond at Heppner but ended up losing 4-14 in their first league action of the season. After a long layoff, rust showed on the defensive side of the ball with 7 errors in 4 innings. This dug an early hole that the Scots couldn't get out of. In the 5th, with our backs against the wall, we battled at the plate and plated 4 runs on a key, 2 out at bat by Calvin Thacker to keep the inning alive, hits by Dallas Reich, 2 doubles by Elliot Salter and Aaron Speed. Overall, pitchers made Heppner put the ball in play but our defense (as a team) didnt make the plays that needed to be made. We play a home JV game this thursday against Pilot Rock.
Havent posted for a while and wanted to update TigerScot fans on the happenings of TigerScot baseball. After our loss to Touchet, we traveled to Sherman County and lost 2 fairly well played games. Game one we led 5-2 entering the 7th but couldnt hold on and lost on a 3 run home run with 2 outs. In game 2, we started out rough but battled back in the latter frames but couldnt dig out of the hole we dug ourselves.
With a week off, the Tscots then played Waitsburg-Prescott, and did not play very good baseball. On the day we had 14 errors and over 15 walks. However, lets chalk this one up as on off day and come back ready to play and get our kinks out. Lots of mental errors on defense, pitching and hitting. Not taking a good swing in a hitters count is some of the mental approaches that we need to improve. One of the great things about this young men is they are willing to put in extra time to get better...early morning hitting, after practice help and conversations about baseball. This week we have a full schedule a We lost the first game of the season against Touchet Washington 6-5. Leading 5-0 entering the 7th, the Indians finally got to TigerScot pitching scoring 6 in the last frame, 5 with two outs. It was a tough, but hopefully a learning loss for the young Tscots. Give credit to Touchet for execution, they earned the victory with several well hit baseballs.
Hitting wise, we had 9 strikeouts which is too high (only 1 looking on a bad call, cant blame the hitter on a call like that). I am pleased we went down swinging, but more contact and putting pressure on the defense is needed. Several players had great at bats. Drew Greenwalt unloaded on a hanging curveball for a 2 run home run in the first. Elliot Salter had a two rbi triple and Dallas Reich followed with a triple of his own. Aaron Speed also crushed a double. Jared Bond hit the ball well but right at people and Deric Carson had a great drag bunt. Chris Hamby also got his first hit of the season, fouling off a couple pitches before, hitting one in the hole. As frustrating as a loss like that can be, as a coach, I am very proud of the way the boys battled and competed. Notably, Nick Lively's performance on the mound after a strong performance by Elliot Salter, helped the Tscots have a chance to win. All the pitchers on the day did exactly what I want as a head coach....throw strikes. Now, we are focused on location of those strikes. If we throw strikes and keep the free passes to a minimum, our defense has to make plays. So far, we have played very good on defense (We have made errors, but those errors have not hurt us) but still need to work on our footwork, especially after we make the play. Several players stepped up and played out of position to help the team. Pitching B+ Good job of throwing strikes, however, 2 walks came back to haunt us....walking 8 and 9 hitters with two outs in the 7th, which allowed for Touchet's top of the order to hit with men on base. However, if anything this comes down to conditioning and arm fatigue which is on me, the head coach. As a team, we must concentrate on this to make sure we are in position to execute late in a game. Hitting: B Several GREAT at bats! But 1 in 4 is only .250, lets keep working...early morning hitting and after practice to execute at a high level. 9 Strike outs. See above for more on hitting... Defense: B 2 errors, but overall, plays were made and people played out of position (Matt McGill catching, did a great job and hasnt worked there this year! He stepped up so Elliot could play first when his arm was a little sore. So both played out of position but both played great) Nick Lively threw a runner out stealing and made several good plays from the pitcher position. Tigerscots traveled to Prescott (Waitsburg) and came away with a 4-3 nail biter to start the young season. Matt McGill struck out the side in the seventh to seal the victory. We started out the season on the right foot with a Elliot Salter lead off single, stolen base and a Dallas Reich sacrifice fly. Reich would later come around to score giving the tscots an early 2-0 lead. It would stay that way until the 5th when Drew Greenwalt lead off the inning with a single, advanced to second on an E-1, and with good situational hitting, Nick Pease got Greenwalt to 3rd on a ground out and Jared Bond delivered a deep sacrifice fly that would put the score 3-0.
However, in the bottom half of the inning, Prescott would take advantage of a couple tscots miscues to score 3 unearned runs. In the 6th, Prescott again would threaten to score, but with the bases loaded and 2 outs, Matt McGill and Derric Carson would execute a perfect timing pickoff play to end the threat. Matt McGill would later score Jared Bond on an E-4 in the top of the seventh. GRADES: Pitching: B+ Very pleased with location of pitches and keeping the ball down. A couple walks hurts the grade a little (come on ump! hahaha) But for the first time out, very happy with the way the pitchers (Reich, Carson, McGill) competed on the hill and allowed the defense to make plays. Hitting: B....A couple balls were hit hard but several strike outs and out in front of the ball. However, several great bunts by Derric Carson and situational hitting by Nick Pease (moving runner over), Jared Bond (sac fly), and Dallas Reich (sac fly). Notables: Greenwalt 2-2 2 walks and a run scored, Bond 0-0 2 walks, 1 hit by pitch and 1 sac fly 1 run scored, Salter, 1-3 1 run 1 SB Defense: B- ...3 errors, too many. However, multiple great team defense plays. Throwing out steal, defend the bunt and throw out at plate, and pick off in a clutch situation was very great to see! Keep it up! Proper footwork will limit our 3 errors. Very fixa |
