The bats finally came alive in the TigerScots walk off 13-12 victory in 8 innings against tuesday's opponent the Touchet Indians. With 2 strikes and 2 outs in the bottom of the 8th inning, Rj Rudolphs laced line drive in the right centerfield gap scored Drew Greenwalt to cap a long day at the TigerScot diamond. Overall, we pounded out 14 hits. Ryan Webb led the attack at the plate with a couple hits and a bases clearing double capping off a 10 run TigerScot outburst in the 5th (along with 5 RBI). Ryan, Shane Bond, and Drew Greenwalt all had multiple hits on the day. In the pressure packed 5th inning the boys stepped up and battled back. (looking at the game in sections we did a great job of getting back into the game and getting some big hits early. Then, with our backs against the wall again, came through with the hits necessary)
All day we were putting pressure on the defense by putting the ball in play hard and running the bases well (except for one instance but that was entirely my fault and the player and hitter did exactly what I asked , believe me, we will practice it). Leading 12-5 in the 7th, the TigerScots let the lead slip away to a fiesty Touchet ball club which tied it at 12. The 7th had too many walks that allowed for the Indians to creep back. However, once again, my pitchers did a great job of battling with being fatigued. This led to the bottom of the 8th and the TigerScot walk off victory.
Offensively: C+ to a B
Up and down the lineup guys put good swings on the baseball, not perfect and as consistant as I would like but hitters were aggressive while, maintaining the thought process that they are in control. Still swinging at poor pitches but much better approach then the 1st game. (late in the game, excellent job of putting the bat on the ball with runners in scoring position and 2 strikes. Good things happen when you make the defense make the plays)
Defensively: B (1 error and a couple balls that we discussed)
Much cleaner game defensively then at Touchet. Guys made plays, hit the proper cut offs which resulted in outs at other bases and did the routine plays. Didnt turn any double plays but got the lead runner each time.
Pitching: B (and a D with too many walks see below)
Ron Terjeson's first start was great. Gabe Quaempts came in and did a terrific job as well. Casey Riddle got the victory by throwing strikes and keeping the ball down (even with a little sore arm). We had way too many walks and free passes on the day but as the head coach, I take responsiblity for a lot of those by letting some pitchers go a little longer then they were ready for. However, I am proud of all the pitchers the way they competed and when called upon, did a great job. Conditioning is going to be a priority.

The TigerScots lost the first game of the season to Touchet, Wa 7-0 in a game that that saw some good baseball and some mistakes. Brian Duke started on the hill for the TigerScots and threw 4 scoreless innings, building on a strong showing from last year. The TigerScot bats were more thump, than thunder, but we put some good swings on the baseball, but not much to show for it. Ryan Webb and Drew Greenwalt had a good day at the plate with a couple hits to show for it. |
